Miss Universe Candidates to visit Davao on January 19 for Mindanao Tapestry Fashion Show #PhoenixFuelsMsUDavao #65thMissUniverse

Last January 13, 2017, 65th Miss Universe organizer lead by the Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Tulfo-Teo, Phoenix Petroleum Philippines Assistant VP for Customer Service and Corporate Communications  Debbie Uy-Rodolfo, DOT Regional Director Roberto "Robby" Alabado III, and Ish Tan of the Red Tie Concepts & Events, Inc officially launched and promote the Miss Universe Davao Ancillary Event held at the Vinta Bar Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao.




18 Candidates of the Miss Universe will visit Davao tomorrow, January 19, 2017. As soon as the candidates arrive, they will be welcomed at the airport in the morning and be brought to a popular tourist destination to enjoy what Davao has to offer.

And by the afternoon, the 18 candidates will be preparing for the fashion show, featuring beautifully crafted gowns created by Davao local fashion designers using distinct and unique waves of the islands at the SMX Convention Center Davao for Mindanao Tapestry Gala as part of the Miss Universe ancillary events for the live pageant set in Manila on January 29, 2017.

Pre-show will start at 4:00PM featuring local models on the runway wearing the creation of ten fashion designers representing the region.

For the main show, candidates will be donning the works of Rene Salud, Silver Tuzon, Emi Englis, Kenny Lagada, Alfonso "Boy" Guinoo, Aztec Barba, Benjie Panizales, Dodjie Batu, Edgar Buyan, Wilson Limon, Egay Ayag.


And Designers at the foyer(lobby) show will be Ronnie Nacua, Toffy Ledesma, Gil Macaibay, Mark Yaranon, Bamba Limon, Nicky de Asis, Richie Uy Delos Santos, Steffy Dacalus, Joey Hambala, Grand Crizzel Ravacio, Pepe Quitco, Che Aranquez, Mark Sayad, Ivan Raborar, Wilfred Yee, Akmad Kari Jr., and Saidali Abdilla Jr.

This event is brought to you by lead presentor Phoenix Petroleum, Metro Shuttle, Eden Nature Park, Park Inn by Radisson Davao, SM Lanang, SMX Convention Center and the Fashion Designers Guild of Davao.

Partners Department of Tourism, LGU-Davao and the Philippine National Police are coordinating for a smooth and efficient handling of the candidates in time for their departure in the evening.

Mindanao Tapestry Fashion Show: A Mindanao Show in Miss Universe 2016 #PhoenixFuelsMsUDavao #65thMissUniverse

After the controversies about the cancellation of  Miss Universe Davao Fashion Show , the tourism officials decided to push through the event after the meeting they have with the Davao Fashion and Design Council Foundation, Inc, (DFDCFI) and added Davao City to their list as part of the ancillary activities of the Miss Universe 2016.



This will give candidates a peek into a least-known aspect of the Philippine culture. An enhancing appreciation of the totality of the Philippines' rich cultural heritage, and not to forget that the reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach is from Cagayan de Oro City (Northern Mindanao).

Showcasing what Mindanao can offer to its visitors, the affluent culture, beauty and tradition - not with the media portrayed Mindanao that is ridden in strife and conflict.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT


THE DREAM WEAVERS OF MINDANAO

It features proud Mindanao tribeswomen whose weaving tradition dates back hundreds of years ago, and now given the attention they deserve. The intricate and creative pattern comes in their dreams, they cannot create a design if they haven't dreamed of it - thus, sometimes they are called the "DREAM WEAVERS".

The traditional cloth made by these tribeswomen shall be turned into contemporary dressing, in a unique show of beauty and culture called " MINDANAO TAPESTRY: The Neo-Ethnic Fashion of Renee Salud and the Mindanao Weavers".



I have posted the other day thatthere are only 18 candidates would visit Davao, but the Miss Universe organization decided to add 11 more candidates - and that makes 29 Miss Universe candidates wearing the Mindanao inspired dresses.

Marks & Spencer Mother's Day Story featuring Joanna Lizares-Co on Motherhood & Mindfulness

In line with Marks & Spencer "LIFE, Spend it Well" campaign, a Mother's Day celebration featuring the story of a SUPERWOMAN: Joanna Lizares-Co. Having a successful career, a mother, a wife and a responsible daughter and a sister, doing this with all her heart without complaining and arguing.




In 2002, a Cebuana Joanna Christina Lizares-Co, 46, married to a Dabawenyo businessman Zosimo Co. She moved to Davao City in the same year and since then, Joanna has considered the city as her second home. The couple is blessed with two beautiful girls – Gianna Simone, 12, and Simmina Christina, 9.

A loving daughter that she is, she has remained in close touch with her family in Cebu even if it means regular visits to her father and siblings. On the average, she and her family travel to her hometown three times a year to bond with her brother and sister and friends. Her father passed away last December.


“I moved to Davao in 2002 and when I went home to Cebu, my time centered on my dad. Whenever my dad asked me to come home, I was there right away. Unfortunately, he passed away in December 2017, “. 
“But I promised my brother and sister we’d continue to visit.” she said in an online interview.

Even it would mean being away from her Cebu family, her decision to join her loving and a very supportive husband in Davao City was just right and she never regretted it.




Although she admitted that her new base is somewhat “laid back” as compared to Cebu, this is what she likes most about living in Davao.


“It wasn’t so bad. I’m a homebody and my husband Sim made it quite easier. He had a lovely home and saw to it we would enjoy what Davao had to offer,” she said.


“Davao is where I have my two girls. I feel a sense of grounding here. Cebu may have been home to me, but this is where I want to stay for now.”
“My happy place is with my two girls and my husband,” she said.

HANDS ON MOM

As a Yoga instructor, Joanna has a tight schedule holding three to four classes a day. But this never affected her responsibility as a mother and a wife. She knows how to deal with this.

“I’m up at 5 a.m. Monday to Saturdays since my first yoga class is at 7 a.m.  Some time after, I check if my girls are up for school.  I teach 3-4 yoga classes spread out in the day so I get to go home in between classes or do my chores,” she said.




While at home, Joanna makes it a point to work on her other interests, spending an hour doing calligraphy, another hour practicing with watercolor or craftwork, another hour to write on her diary, journal, update her schedule.




 “Dinnertime is with my husband and kids, where we talk about anything.  I cap off the day reading.  At around 10 p.m.  I’m asleep.  Weekends are with my girls and they have all my attention.  We play board games, do arts and crafts, go to the mall, watch movies, and eat,” she said.

They also travel once a year, a kind of family bonding that revolves around her two girls. “We get to be more adventurous only when Sim and I travel on our own,” she said.




It’s full of laughter the way she describes her relationship with her family.
   

 A CAREER WOMAN

It was in 2011 when Joanna started to practice yoga, which she describes as "a holistic approach to health, wellness, and mindfulness.”

She never expected to become a yoga teacher and just wanted to be good in it, basically the reason she took the Hatha Yoga teacher training program that was offered in Davao City in 2014. She is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT200) with Yoga Alliance and she is accredited by the International Institute of Yogic Science. Her 200-hour training was conducted by Tatva Yoga International under Master Dev Kapil.

“This really just happened to fall on my lap…I simply wanted to do better in my yoga practice. But what do you know?  I immediately got an offer to teach at Holiday Gym Davao so I took the opportunity. It has been three wonderful years being a yoga teacher,” she confidently said.

Joanna is grateful she was introduced to such practice, which she said help her improve her well-being, her outlook in life, promoting healthy living which has become her advocacy.

“Yoga introduced me to mindfulness.  Just when I thought I perfected multitasking, I get shifted back to doing things one at a time. This mental practice of awareness and staying in the present moment has allowed me to even to manage my time better. There is a time for study, for hobbies, for work, for play, etc.,” she said.

“In my personal experience, its getting people to understand that there are no quick fixes.  We must allow the process to work and take place.  If it is slow, it’s more lasting,” she stressed.



HER FASHION SENSE

Joanna isn’t the shopaholic type, but for arts and crafts, she is one, making it a weekly chore. “For clothes? Only when I need to and when the occasion calls for it,” she said.

She admitted to be a classic dresser and does not sacrifice function for form or style this why she loves shopping at Marks & Spencer because the selections fit her fashion style.

“You won’t find me jumping on the latest fashion just because it’s the trend.  I have to like it a lot and be comfortable in it for me to wear,” she said.




What occupies her closet aside from, of course, yoga pieces? ”It’s shoes and bags!  Stretch pants, white shirts, cardigans, day dresses, sleeveless tops, scarves and shawls,” she said.




And a piece of advise to women out there who want to feel they have a complete wardrobe in their closet, Joanna has this to say: It should contain white cotton button-down shirt, a little black dress, dark denim jeans, white shorts, knit tops, black pants, printed day dress, plain sheath dress, blazer, black pumps, neutral ballet flats, metallic evening shoes, scarves, black tote.


LIFE, LIVING IT WELL

The way things are going for Joanna only prove the possibility of just she living life to the fullest with focus on improving it as a career woman, a loving sister and a responsible wife and a mother. And this makes her a happy person.

“It is a happy, healthy life purposefully lived.  At the end of my life, I would want to be able to say that with all the talents God has given me, I have multiplied it, and spent it well for the purpose given me. We only have one life, I do not wish otherwise but to live it full with my family,” she said

“I try to take care of my body, eat well, stay fit, and take time to meditate.  I believe that if I take good care of myself (mind and body), I can take care of my family and others better, and be more effective in the things I do.  I am not known to do things half-baked.  I get into something because I am passionate about it.  And when I am passionate in the things I do, I do well,” she concluded.

Salon Experience at Hair Studio Gaisano Mall

I am lucky that I have long and healthy hair, but problem is when you colored bleach you hair it doesn't come with a catch after a month. If I don't get a hair treatment, it will start to have a mushroom effect hair texture, wherein it start to burst out at the sides and become frizz like a dead hair in all the wrong ways. And I don't have a trusted hairdresser to catch it before the real proof is critical.

Recently, I got the chance to chat with Ms. Mary Jenny Lim-Carpio, Owner/Proprietor of Jenden Hair Studio and get some of her top tips on how to have a beautiful hair and lifestyles. She want me to experience hair and nail salon at their Hair Studio located at the 3rd floor Gaisano Mall Davao.

I had my first visit to the salon last week and was blown away. When I first entered, it was like I am inside a shopping mall (indeed I am inside a mall-but seeing many people inside a salon both male and female) I was completely shock! They have many clients that time and the good thing is that the salon has many staff's too! The ambiance was so relaxing which is exactly what I needed after a stressful week.

I was welcome by Ms. Che, the Hair Studio Manager, she was very helpful. My assigned stylist Ogie was very accommodating. Before I went in I was nervous about having a change, but I felt I am in good hands with Ogie.

I had my hair washed and was offered a really great massage for my SP Hair Treatment.



SP Treatment is good for colored bleach hair. I have fine hair and have had bad experiences with breakage from bleach and hair color, your hair will be dry and brittle - and this treatment suits me.

While waiting for 15-30 minutes hair treatment, I was introduce to Nail Gel Manicure.






Nail Gel is different from Acrylic ones. Acrylic nails are made of a powder dipped in a solvent. While Nail Gel, comes in a nail polish shades, and are made hard by being cured under a UV or Led Lamp.

When watching Kadayawan Festivals, especially Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan and Pamulak sa Kadayawan expect that you will be standing under the sun for a long hours.





A CHECKLIST for GUIDANCE:




Wear light clothes and avoid dark colored shirts. No doubts, we over heard this already that black or dark colored clothes are more absorbent compared to white and light clothes that are more reflective.


No Backpacks Rule. Davao City Councilor Edgar Ibuyan has reiterated this rule since 2014. The rule is part of the security plan to abort terrorists hiding explosive devices in backpack.

You can use shoulder bags that are transparent bag, cloth bag or laminated bag.


Wearing CAPS and SUNGLASSES strictly not allowed, use STRAW HATS and/or a "BANDANA" for added protection.


Wear comfortable shoes.


While some use slippers or travel slippers while watching Indak-Indak and Float Parade.





Gadgets. To capture every moment during the highlights, use either camera or a smartphone camera, and don't forget your powerbank (a portable charger that comes in every handy when you're outdoors).



Since this is the first Kadayawan under Martial Law expect more strengthen and strict guidance inspection during the activities. We have to follow rules, but still we need to suit ourselves by wearing comfortable clothes that fit well so that you look and act your best while having fun at #Kadayawan.

Every woman needs to spoil herself sometimes. Besides from shopping, our hands and feet really deserve some attention especially us "WAHM" (Work At Home Mom) from a week of work abuse facing the computer, laundry errands, gardening, washing dishes and a host of different excuses.



It's a good thing that I have nothing to do because my two daughter have no class; which give me an ample time for some good, old-time pampering. I was invited by NAILAHOLICS Nail Salon & Spa Abreeza Davao for a day of relaxation and to avail any services that I want.


A trip to the nail salon isn't just about gloss and shine for an ordinary meni/pedi enthusiasts. It's all about experience and the quality of service.

Here's a few notes on what you should be looking for when you're scouting for the perfect nail pampering destination. Did it meet my expectation? Let's find out.

On Sterilizing Nail Tools And Hygiene Protocols

Don't be afraid to ask about what the salon does to ensure the quality and hygiene of their services. It's not enough that they say they follow strict protocols, better see for yourself - visit the salon! And ask about the process they take to sanitize their tools if you're unsatisfied.



What I found particularly when I got there, with all honesty, I was dismay. There is no available nail assistants (the fact is, all are assigned to respective customers) so I have to wait for 30 minutes. While waiting, I examined its content of their tool basket and found some of their tools like nail clipper, nipper, nail file, etc are all in a sealed packet. I have also seen other employees where in a room sterilizing their tools to prove that they are not bluffing in saying, "we take our business seriously and we love our jobs that we don't want to get sued".

I've seen this practiced by budget salons, I don't know if they are aware of health risks if accidentally cut someone's toes with unsanitized tools. We often disregard these kind of things as nothing or will never happened, because we assume that every treatment will go as planned. So be aware, that these tools have been used to service to a thousand customers.

I find it commendable that Nailaholics does this for their customers who knows what kind of bacteria or fungus is lurking if these were not properly sanitized and sterilized. Hope their staff will maintain this kind of protocol religiously even if they're too busy with their work.

GEL PEDICURE + FOOT SPA Experience



The pedicure treatment started with a foot soak, massage, followed with the cuticle removal, nail cut and applications of gel nail color, nail polish and UV for the gel. I choose the colorless for my toe nails because I’m using close shoes everyday so it doesn’t matter if I choose less color, it still look pretty but not too overpowering.I like simple and it will match any clothes I wear. The whole procedure went on smoothly that I took a quick nap in between sessions.

GEL MANICURE Experience

The other assistant did the same thing. But the entire procedure took me more than an hour to wait because they only have 2 UV Gel Machine and that time the salon as I said is FULL PACK of customers. That makes sense.

It’s not my first time to have a GEL MANICURE procedure (read HairStudio), still I am slightly worried of the outcome. But there was nothing to worry though because it was generally 100% safe.

I waited for almost two hours to have my nail done. The result was great! After submitting my hands to constant abuse from computer work, it looked pretty and less tired again.


 
People who say that these beauty regimen are a waste of money, well they are all wrong! For me, it is a therapeutic way of making ME time by sitting there, do nothing while someone fiddles with your nails and cuticle until it look gorgeous and clean.

I would definitely recommend that you try other services they have aside from the basic manicure and pedicure. Given that it is a FREE pampering day for the bloggers, I still recommend the PACKAGE services, you can expect to get superb service at the price or even more.

MY EYELASH PERMING EXPERIENCE

My lashes are not that long but they're straight. I always rely on my eyelash curler, so when I got the chance to have a FREE service from Hey Sugar! I was excited.

I've heard about eyelash extensions pros and cons and it sounds icky to me. Eyelash extensions is a big no-no for me. And the fact that you put fake lashes on your own eyelashes well thank you. I'm more safe with eyelash perming.

WHAT IS EYELASH PERMING? Or an eyelash permanent wave or known as the eyelash perm. It is a permanent relaxer that straightens the hair, a cosmetic procedure done by a licensed Aestheticians to flip up eyelashes using hair perming technology.

    

I booked an appointment with them one day after our Nailaholics nail pampering. On the day of the perming, I popped into one of their rooms and saw my other colleagues Dorz Calla from Davao Digital Influencers team having its eyelash perming procedure too.

While waiting, I was asked to fill in some forms then I was led by an aestheticians to the first cubicle after Dorz done with her procedure. The cubicle was small and clean with a bed on one side, a small drawer and powerful lamp on the other side.

The aestheticians asked me to lie down then turned on the powerful lamp and start cleaning the oily part around my eyes.

Lashes are treated with perm solutions which is then followed by the neutralizer and sometimes depending on which system you use will have a nourishing oil as the last step, to recondition and strengthen the lashes. Each being left on about 10 minutes.


Once the lashes have been applied by the FDA approved glue 100% safe and stings less, that doesn't hurt the lashes to the perm rod or silicone pad (with sizes S, M, L) the perming solution is applied to the upturned lash and left to set to 30 minutes, followed by a neutralizer which is also left for another 15 minutes. Once the silicone pad is removed the eyelids and lashes are cleansed of any residue. My over all procedure takes almost an hour, that I had to remind myself to not open my eyes or else it won't work. So I was drift off to sleep.

Another thing that convince me to do the eyelash perming is that it last longer compared to eyelash extensions. Eyelash Perming last for about 2 to 3 months, extensions last for 2 weeks.

For the first 3 days, you are not allowed to put mascara on your lashes. And make sure within a week stay away from going to the beach --- avoid sea and rain water.



And I have to tell you this, I don't regret in choosing the eyelash perming. It was perfect and worth it! I was amazed with the result and my eyelashes looks so awesome now.
